Supporting Learners Progress to Higher Education: A Guide for Advisers
Information on progression to higher education (HE) for both learners and advisers has traditionally focused on the requirements of A-level learners progressing on to full time HE provision. This guide is aimed at advisers and student support staff who help learners progress to HE, and includes information for supporting vocational learners from level 3 qualifications, including Access to HE Diplomas, BTEC Nationals, Advanced Diplomas and Advanced Apprentices, as well as A-level learners. The guide also provides an overview of the wide range of HE providers and study modes and includes advice on helping learners make informed choices and effective applications to HE.

Vocational Qualifications and Learner Progression
This short publication aims to provide an overview of the Apprenticeship, Advanced Diploma, BTEC National and Access to HE qualifications with the aim of contextualising recent developments and draws attention to issues of current concern with regard to opportunities for progression.
Given the changes planned post-Wolf, it is hoped that partners will find it a timely reminder of the richness of these qualifications, as well as providing evidence of their effectiveness as progression tools for vocational learners

Information, Advice and Guidance Perspective on Progression to Higher Education from Vocational Qualifications
Progression from A-levels to full time Higher Education study is relatively straightforward and well established. Higher Education (HE) programmes have traditionally been developed with A-levels in mind, have clearly defined entry requirements, and information resources and support aimed at students, advisers, parents and tutors are widely available to support this progression. In contrast, progression from vocational and applied qualifications remains a less clear and less travelled route into HE. This lack of clarity extends to part time and flexible HE study.
This publication will explore some of the key issues facing vocational applicants to HE, in the context of a changing IAG landscape and the increase in HE tuition fees for 2012 entry. It also includes case studies of Linking London’s work in this area to improve progression to HE for vocational learners.
