Linking London’s Network of Collaborative Outreach is now in full swing
The new term marked the start of our adviser focused events where we kicked off with a personal statement workshop attended by advisers across London on the 30th September. The session provided an opportunity for us to look at how we can support learners in writing their personal statements, specifically focusing on BTEC and Access learners. We were joined by Tim Dhir from Kingston University who shared his knowledge on writing an effective personal statement. You can view a summary of this event by looking at our website here. We will also be running subject specific events to provide advisers with information and guidance on subject areas at HE and application advice during this academic year.
During the summer a project plan was developed which will enable the network to keep on track and focus on its core aims, but also allows the flexibility for additional work to be carried out through partner requests and demand. This plan was shared at the second Steering Group meeting held on the 22nd of September. Last month our first e-bulletin went out to partners outlining our offer to colleges in London. We are also busy working with a web development company to provide an adviser site which will house useful resources and information for advisers working with learners across London who want to progress to HE, which we plan to launch later in the term.
In other areas the network is busy piloting 2 learner support activities. The first being an online person statement checking service and the other a collaborative student ambassadors scheme to provide college learners with role models.
