IAG Practitioner Group Meeting

The first IAG Practitioner Group meeting of this academic year took place on 3rd October at Birkbeck and was well attended by college and HEI partner representatives present.


The meeting began with a presentation by Louise Whitley, Senior Locality Manager, Skills for Care, who provided an overview and an update on what Skills for Care does including what apprenticeships are available in adult social care and what ways Skills for Care supports social work and nursing roles. Delegates were then given the opportunity to ask questions as part of a Q&A session. 

Following this, Karen Evans, Learning Disability Nursing Workforce Lead, Capital Nurse presented and overview of the work of Capital Nurse including, apprenticeships and work experience opportunities.

After a networking break, a roundtable partner update then followed where partners discussed and shared IAG related news, upcoming events such as the Access your Future event and also HE fairs at Waltham Forest College and Kensington and Chelsea College. Other topics included news on T-Levels, apprenticeships, maths master classes at Birkbeck, and a new degree Culinary Health and Nutrition at Westminster Kingsway College.

The group then heard from Beth Jones, Gatsby Education Team who presented an overview of the work of Gatsby, the Gatsby benchmarks and what is next for them.

Lastly, the group heard from Ben Rutter, Funding Information Partners Account Manager, Student Loans Company. Ben discussed potential policy changes, application figures so far and the group discussed ways in which to encourage students to complete applications before the deadline.

The next IAG meeting of the academic year will take place in February at Birkbeck, University of London - date and time TBC.
