Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group Meeting
Marisa’s presentation provided an update on current Access to HE Diploma developments, discussing the NHS Bursary, Access fee waivers and OCN London’s newly developed Access courses. Marisa concluded by posing questions to members on the future of the qualification in light of the new tariff and funding concerns.
Andrew Jones, Deputy Director and IAG Specialist at Linking London, then provided members with Linking London’s initial mapping of the 2017 entry requirements for Access learners. The difficulty of translating tariff requirements to Access grades was highlighted, and methods of assisting students in their understanding of the tariff were discussed.
After a short break attendees took part in a round table update, where practitioners reported on matters such as student retention, unconditional offers, expanding provisions and progression.
Andrew then presented a draft version of a future Linking London publication for group discussion: ‘Studying Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions in HE: A Guide for Access to HE Diploma learners.’ Feedback was given by partners, after which the future direction of the Access Practitioner Group was discussed.
The meeting concluded with an update from Andrew on the Linking London publications available on the Partner Area of the website, and a call for volunteers to assist in some practitioner research.
