IAG Practitioner Group Meeting

The second Linking London IAG Practitioner Group Meeting of this term took place on the 3rd of December and featured input from Yolande Burgess, London Councils, who updated the group on progress with London Ambitions. Launched this summer, London Ambitions: Shaping a Successful Careers Offer for All Londoners, outlines the need for better careers support in London schools and colleges. Commissioned through the London Enterprise Panel (LEP) and London Councils it sets out an ambitious London-wide approach to career development based around seven key elements and has been welcomed by many leading educationalists and employers alongside those in the careers field.

At the meeting, the key findings of Linking London’s latest publication: Key Sectors Within London’s Economy: Continuing Trends and Growth Sectors, Plus the Needs of the Future were also shared by Andrew Jones. The report, which  draws on data from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills as well as the Office for National Statistics, outlines predicted sectors and occupations that are growing as well as those in decline and explores employer perspectives on recruitment and training. Attendees also heard from Sarah Tucker, Widening Participation Officer (Post-16) about SOAS, University of London’s curriculum and college outreach offer, as well as an update from Emily Harber, Linking London NCO Project Officer, on the latest NNCO developments.

The next Linking London IAG Practitioner Group Meeting will take place on the 2nd of February, 10-1pm and will include input from a representative from UCAS on the latest developments, including resources and support available to both advisers and learners.
