IAG Practitioner Group Meeting

The first Linking London IAG Practitioner Group Meeting of the Spring Term took place on the 2nd February 2016 and was well attended – 32 were present in total.

After a welcome and introduction from Andrew Jones (Deputy Director and IAG Manager for Linking London) Paul Hampson (Outreach, University of Westminster) gave our first presentation of the meeting, which provided an introduction to the University of Westminster, and the current work it undertakes towards widening participation. Details of their outreach programme were followed by questions from partners on scholarships and the demographic of the student body.

A round table session followed, during which partners shared updates on their IAG work, and discussed related issues and good practice. Matters discussed include: UCAS application numbers, outreach programmes and entrance examinations. Once the round table was complete, Ben Rutter (IAG Partner Account Manager Student Loans Company) provided the group with an update from the Student Loans Company, featuring information on ‘Quick Guides’, National Student Money Week, and undergraduate application deadlines.

After a short break for refreshments, Andrew outlined Linking London’s IAG offer for the current academic year, including updates on publications and planned activities and events. After Andrew’s update attendees viewed a second presentation; a UCAS overview and update from Alan Jones (Professional Development Executive UCAS). Alan’s UCAS update covered topics such as applicant numbers, the new UCAS tariff, internet resources and clearing.

Emily Harber (NNCO Project Officer) provided an update on Linking London’s NNCO work, which was followed by Dr. Camilla Mount (HE in London Project Co-ordinator) who introduced the service provided by the HE in London website, as well as the new Student Award to widen participation.

The next meeting will take place on 13th April 2016.
