HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting
After a welcome from Sue Betts (Director of Linking London), delegates heard from Eve England and Sian Jones-Davies (Eversheds International Law Firm), who discussed what the recent Competitions and Market Authority publication means for the FE sector. The legislation was clarified, student contracts were explained, and pre-contract information was discussed.
Liz Kebby-Jones (HEFCE HE Policy Adviser) then gave attendees an update from HEFCE’s HE in FE team. Liz highlighted HEFCE’s regional FE events, their renewed commitment to the FE sector, and the forthcoming NCOP programme.
After a short break for refreshments, attendees heard from Nick Davy (HE Policy Manager, Association of Colleges), who provided a review of the academic year for colleges, and a summary of upcoming issues in the sector. Nick examined issues such as the rebuilding of Apprenticeships, the revised model for quality assessment, and the new technical education stream.
A round table partner’s update then took place, with all attendees reporting on current issues they are facing as Institutions, providing updates on apprenticeship bids, merger news, and GCSE resits.
Andrew Jones (Deputy Director of Linking London) then updated delegates on Linking London’s work mapping London’s HE in FE Provision. The mapping covers 45 colleges from within the capital. Feedback from partners was encouraged.
Sue Betts closed the meeting, encouraging partners to contact Linking London with any topics of interest for the next academic year.
