Linking London HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting

The third and last HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting of the academic year chaired by Andrew Gower, Principal & Chief Executive at Morley College London, was held on the 9th June.

After a warm welcome and opening remarks from Andrew Gower, the meeting began with a discussion on Growing Higher Education in Further Education in London – a round table discussion on how we improve progression to Levels 4 and 5 in colleges. Attendees were given some pre-reading, a report by Mixed Economy Group (MEG) of Colleges on Progression to Higher Education: the distinctive role of FECs and attendees shared some thoughts on their perspective on internal progression to higher education and ways in which to make onward progression more possible for adults.

A partner round table update then followed where our partners gave updates on HE in FE provision and related issues, the discussion included a widening participation project in the works, research on HE student identity and lastly some news from Linking London including a meeting with John Blake and our upcoming London University and College apprenticeship offer guide.

After a short break, we had a presentation from Rebecca Mameli, Head of Higher Education Research and Qualifications who presented to the group giving an update on Higher Technical Qualifications including some key headlines and Pearson’s response to the HE reform and the LLE consultation.

Following this, we heard from Arti Saraswat, Senior Policy Manager, Higher Education, Association of Colleges (AoC) who presented to the group giving a round of significant events in 2022-23 including College HE opportunities and challenges and what's next.

The date of the next HE in FE meeting will be in the Autumn term, date and time TBC.
