London NCOP-Linking London Update

Six months have now passed since the first NCOP session was delivered back in Havering College in September and so in March we have taken some time to review the delivery so far and catch up with our university partners.

Across our hubs, over 135 sessions have now been delivered by Linking London and our partner universities and this is complemented by further support such as staff CPD sessions, trips to apprenticeship/UCAS fairs and drop-in sessions. For more details of the work in each hub as well as reminders for April, have a read below.

In hub 1 there have been a number of external visits as well as workshops delivered in the colleges. On 5 March Michelle Giordmaina took 7 students from Barking & Dagenham College to the National Apprenticeship Show at Sandown Park where over 100 employers were showcasing their opportunities and students were able to find out more about what apprenticeships can offer. This visit was then followed up by a workshop back in college. On 7 March a group of engineering students from Barking & Dagenham also went on an experience day at London South Bank University (LSBU) where students were able to sample the different areas of engineering available at university as well as meeting some current students and academic staff.  Aside from these visits, hub 1 has continued to be busy with workshops from LSBU, Middlesex University and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

In London South East Colleges (LSEC), LSBU have continued to deliver sessions to Health and Social Care students. Sessions this month have focused on personal statements, cover letters and interview skills. The University of Greenwich are coming to the end of their launch sessions for their 'Discover HE' mentoring programme and so far over 30 ward learners are participating in the programme which will run through a mix of face-to-face meetings with their mentors and online communication via the Brightside platform. The student-led Hackshare Codedojo events at Goldsmiths, University of London have sadly come to an end as the Goldsmiths students focus on their final term assessments. As a result, Goldsmiths are looking to deliver more sessions 'in-house' at LSEC and Coulsdon College rather than run campus visits.

In hub 3 Ellen Carpenter has been conducting initial meetings with NCOP students at Kingston College and meeting with curriculum managers to arrange the start of the St Mary's University Project and the Kingston University project.
