Student Retention and Success Practitioner Online Meeting
After a warm welcome from Michael Hill, the meeting began with three colleagues to present an overview of their institutions’ mentoring schemes. The group heard first from Lucy Rose Wright, Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation at University of Westminster who presented to the group on their mentoring scheme ‘Future Ready Mentoring’ and evaluation. We then heard from Yvonne Halloran, Careers Adviser & SEEDS Project Leader from Ravensbourne University who presented to the group on their 6-month programme ‘SEEDS’ which supports neurodivergent students to set up in business or freelance including the lessons learnt. Lastly, Jack Wright, Student Engagement Officer presented to the group (via recording) on an overview of their peer support schemes available at SOAS.
After a short comfort break, Jakub Kowalewski, Partnership Officer at Linking London gave the group a quick overview on the OfS consultation and thresholds summary & overview of London mentoring schemes. Then the group went into breakout groups and using Jamboard discussed how can the OfS thresholds for continuation, completion, and progression be met with the help of mentoring.
Following this, partners were able to discuss about possible topics for future meetings and what issues would be beneficial for institutions to discuss further on. Topics suggested were around evaluation, student mental wellbeing and the joining up of the student journey.
The next Student Retention and Success meeting will be in the in the Spring term, Thursday 9th March 2023, 2-4:30pm.
