Student Retention and Success Online Meeting
After a warm welcome from Michael Hill, partners then introduced themselves to the group and gave a short update about their institution and what their main role/concern has been in the last few months.
Sue Betts, Executive Director at Linking London then presented to the group looking at the key messages from the Pearson/Wonkhe survey including what students really want, the transition to online learning, the experience of staff and also looking at where we are now and how retention can be improved.
After a short comfort break, Jan Orlebar, Careers Adviser at University of Greenwich presented to the group on the BAME Student Development Group ‘Start Strong, Stay Strong including its aims/objectives, workshop overview, evaluation and what’s next.
Following this, Bushra Iqbal, Deputy Director Higher Education and Access at Newham College and Syreeta Allen, Head of Student Outcomes, Student Success Department at King’s College London both presented separately on an FE and HE partner perspective on managing learning and teaching during the pandemic and the implications for teaching staff. Bushra reflected on how Newham College are managing in terms of the pandemic including strengths and weaknesses and reflections from staff and Syreeta presented on King’s College London’s approach to learning and teaching during the pandemic. This included inclusive teaching and learning, supporting retention and the data & evaluation found through equalities analysis and surveys.
