Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Group Meeting
The second Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Group Meeting of the academic year was well represented, with both HE and FE partners present.
After a warm welcome from the Chair, Darryll Bravenboer, Middlesex University, the meeting began with a presentation from Rohini Bhattacharya, Pearson. Rohini presented the key findings and recommendations from the final report of the Independent Apprenticeship Policy Group which was released recently on 3rd March 2020. This report discussed the future and importance of apprenticeships for individuals, businesses and the economy.
A roundtable partner update then followed where partners discussed and shared issues and good practice related to HADA developments and delivery including advice on integrated degrees and end point assessments and the importance of getting more information on apprenticeships out there and getting our voice heard.
Following a short break, the group heard from Pat Carvalho, HCUC. Pat presented to the group on an overview of the new West London Institute of Technology (IoT), including background, aims and the curriculum as well as plans going forward.
Lastly the group heard from Darryll Bravenboer, Middlesex University. Darryll presented on to the group on research done on the Sustainable Conditions for Degree Apprenticeships from a provider’s perspective, including what works and doesn’t for degree apprenticeships, challenges and draft recommendations.
The next HADA meeting will take place in on Thursday 11th June, 2-4:30pm. Due to the coronavirus outbreak we will update you on whether this meeting will still be going ahead, nearer the time. All future events information can be found here.
