HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting

The first HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting of the academic year chaired by David Hillier, former Assistant Principal - HE and Business Development at South Thames Colleges Group, was held on the 4th November.

After a warm welcome from David Hillier, the meeting began with a presentation from Rebecca Mameli, Head of Higher Education Research and Qualifications at Pearson who presented to the group giving an update within the HNC/HND space including the higher technical qualifications approval process, an overview of digital products they offer to support teaching and learning such as HN Global and HN Online and training for BTEC Higher Nationals.

A partner round table update then followed where our partners gave updates on HE in FE provision and related issues, the discussion included HE culture, NSS results and how to address student engagement and capture the student voice.

After a short break, we heard from David Hillier who spoke to the group about the GLA Adult Education Roadmap (draft) including the overarching ambitions. The group then discussed what this might mean for college HE including any challenges and opportunities.

Delegates then heard from Sue Betts, Executive Director at Linking London who presented to the group on some research Linking London did around online marketing of HE in FE courses and thoughts on how we can learn from one another sharing the key findings, the good and bad observations.

Lastly, we said a fond farewell and thank you to David Hillier who has chaired our HE in FE meetings since 2018 and Linking London introduced the new chair Andrew Gower, Principal & Chief Executive at Morley College London who will chair our meetings from the Spring term 2022.

The date of the next HE in FE meeting will be in the Spring term, date and time TBC.
