Uni Connect Outreach Hub Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Webinar

On Thursday June 4th, the Linking London Uni Connect (NCOP) Outreach Hub hosted our first virtual event which was for CEIAG staff involved in supporting students onto higher and degree apprenticeships.

In the first half of the event, Sophie Baldry, from RateMyApprenticeship, presented an update on the apprenticeship landscape and how RateMyApprenticeship can offer support, particularly during the Covid-19 crisis. An interesting point highlighted by Sophie was that many entry level hires lack key skills that employers are looking for, such as commercial awareness, business appropriate communication and leadership. The presentation was followed by a short Q&A which Sophie’s colleague, Nisha Batish, assisted with.

Following the break, Carlo Liu shared how Westminster Kingsway College supports their students through the application process for higher and degree apprenticeships. Carlo stressed how the model of support has to be similar to, if not more rigorous than, the support available for students applying conventionally to university through UCAS due to the challenging and highly competitive recruitment process.

We’d like to extend our thanks to Sophie and Nisha, from RateMyApprenticeship, and Carlo, from Westminster Kingsway College, for their presentations and all the attendees for their questions. A recording of the webinar can be found here and all of the slides are viewable as a PDF here.
