London NCOP-Linking London Update

In November, London NCOP-Linking London has continued its work in hubs 1 & 2 and continues to plan in Hub 3 in anticipation of starting work there in January. We have met with our Steering Group and have completed the third round of bidding from partners. We are also preparing our next financial and monitoring return for HEFCE which is due in January.

In Hub 1, sessions delivered by Linking London staff for Year 2 students have wound down as the UCAS deadline looms and students now have the tools to go away and complete their application. Support continues to be offered to students with their application and personal statement and there has been a steady stream of statements sent to the Linking London Online Personal Statement Tool where advisers from our partner universities review and provide feedback on the statements submitted.  The focus of sessions has now moved to more practical considerations such as how to prepare your portfolio for the Art and Design students, how to prepare for interviews and what work experience needs to be completed. These sessions have been delivered by our partner universities; London South Bank University, Ravensbourne and Middlesex University London, and the students have loved speaking directly to someone from a university.

In Hub 2, there are now three partner universities delivering sessions to both Year 1 and Year 2 students; The University of Greenwich, Goldsmiths University of London and London South Bank University. Students have benefited from a range of workshops, drop in sessions and campus visits and similar to Hub 1, when universities have included student ambassadors in the sessions this has been very well received by students who love to hear from someone who has been in their shoes recently and can answer their questions relating to life in HE.

Recruitment for mentors for our Brightside Online Mentoring Programme has gone well and on the 11th December, a range of student ambassadors from our partner universities will come to Birkbeck University to receive training ahead of becoming a Brightside Mentor.

St Mary's University are now recruiting for their NCOP post. To find out more about the role please click here.
