IAG Practitioner Group Meeting

The first meeting of the academic year featured presentations from Tim Dhir from Kingston University London on personal statements and Andrew Jones & Naomi Smith, Linking London, who offered insights into the current higher and degree apprenticeships landscape in Greater London.

The first IAG Practitioner Group Meeting of the 2017/18 academic year was held on 3rd October and was well attended, with over 30 partner representatives present. After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Deputy Director of Linking London, delegates received an interactive presentation on personal statements from Tim Dhir, Education Liaison Officer at Kingston University London. Tim highlighted useful tips, resources and research for advisers and offered advice for advisers to help students write effective statements.

A roundtable partner update followed, where partners discussed and shared IAG related news and examples of good practice. Topics included: enrolment, UCAS applications, higher/degree apprenticeships and forthcoming HE fairs/outreach activities.

After a short break, the group then heard from Ben Rutter, Funding Information Partners Account Manager at Student Loans Company (SLC). Ben discussed the application figures for this year and provided an update on student loan information and government policy decisions.

Following this, Andrew Jones and Naomi Smith, Linking London, presented to the group on the current higher and degree apprenticeship vacancies in Greater London. Naomi provided delegates with a document that shows the latest vacancies available for higher and degree apprenticeships and informed the group about the shift in vacancies since Linking London last carried out research.

The meeting closed with delegates discussing useful, innovative resources for advisers and students, and ideas for the next IAG meeting.

The next meeting will take place on 7th December 2017, 2 – 5pm at Birkbeck, University of London.
