London NCOP-Linking London Update

In December the Linking London NCOP team continued its work in hubs 1 & 2 and held two events – a Christmas event to celebrate the work that has been achieved as part of the NCOP programme and a Brightside training day for aspiring student mentors from our partner universities.

On 8th December London NCOP-Linking London held a Christmas Event to celebrate the work that has been achieved so far as part of the NCOP programme. We were delighted that so many of our partners were able to attend to celebrate what has been achieved so far as well as to reflect on the lessons that have been learnt and how we are planning to move forward in 2018.  A huge amount has already been achieved since delivery started in October with over 70 sessions spanning 13 subject areas and reaching more than 480 students.

In hub 1, sessions have continued to focus on personal statement and application support as students put the final touches to their applications ready for the January deadline. Staff in both Havering and Barking and Dagenham College have also benefited from Continued Professional Development (CPD) sessions, the latest being on the 14th December where Tim Whittlesea, Outreach Manager at Middlesex University London delivered a session to staff at Havering College on writing references for UCAS which was very well received in particular by new members of staff.

In Hub 2 we have welcomed Pratish Solanki to the position of NCOP Engagement Officer. Pratish comes into the role with previous experience of working in London South East Colleges (LSEC) which will stand him in good stead to arrange the timetabling of sessions for the 5 universities that will be delivering sessions to staff and students there from January; The University of Greenwich, Goldsmiths University of London, London South Bank University, The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and Middlesex University London.

Finally, on 11th December we held a training day at Birkbeck, University of London for students from our partner universities who will become mentors on our Brightside project. Sarah Fisher, NCOP Programme Officer at Linking London kicked off the session with an introduction to NCOP and Chris Mattinson, Projects Manager at Brightside then walked the mentors through the mentoring process and had everyone out of their seats to ensure the session was as interactive as possible!

If you are a teacher or careers advisor at a London NCOP school or college, Middlesex University London and St Mary’s University, Twickenham, funded by Linking London, are developing a professional development event for teachers and careers advisors and would like your opinion regarding content and logistics to ensure that the event is beneficial for you. The questionnaire should take you less than five minutes to complete: Please contact if you have any questions regarding the questionnaire or would like more information about the event.
