London NCOP-Linking London Update

We are delighted to say that November has been our busiest month ever in terms of activity delivery with over 150 activities delivered and more than 60 ward learners joining our programme.

A significant amount of delivery has taken place in our North-East Hub 1 which consists of Barking and Dagenham College, Havering College of Further and Higher Education and Havering Sixth Form College.  This month, learners in this hub have taken part in a range of activity including interview skills workshops, subject-specific attainment raising sessions, mindfulness sessions, talks from inspirational speakers and trips to events such as the Skills London event on 24th November. We were also delighted at the turn out for our London NCOP Careers Fair, a collaborative event with Access HE and AimHigher London which took place on 19th November at the QEII Centre in Westminster. Students were able to speak to a variety of employers and sector organisations as well as attend a number of workshops, including several interactive sessions which were particularly popular!

At the start of November the London NCOP also had a field visit from CFE Research who are conducting the national evaluation of the programme. During this field visit, CFE were particularly interested in gathering as much evidence as possible of the impact of our work and understanding the delivery model of the London NCOP. This includes how we allocate funds, our structure, use of the learner voice and our involvement with third party organisations. Other areas that were discussed included staff and institutional attrition, buy-in to the NCOP, opportunities that the NCOP presents and the FE ‘turbulence’ in London.  We were pleased with how the visit went and are working on providing evidence of the impact of our work.

In terms of staffing, the NCOP team at Linking London saw a number of changes in November. We are delighted that Louise Izzard has started as Programme Officer but unfortunately Michelle Giordmaina, engagement officer in Havering FE College and Barking and Dagenham College has left the team and we are now recruiting for this position.
