Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group Meeting
After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Linking London, delegates heard from Marisa Castellini, Head of Access to HE at OCN London who presented on the latest OCN London news and developments including the QAA Extraordinary Regulatory Framework, Access learner results 2020-21, feedback from Access providers and new Diplomas.
Following this we had a college and university partner perspectives on delivering an effective IAG and outreach offer to Access to HE Diploma learners. Firstly, we heard from Joseph Clemoes, Careers Adviser at Newham College London who presented to the group giving a useful timeline of the support given throughout the year, the challenges for students and staff and positives. We then heard from Karen Western, Widening Access Officer at Brunel University London who presented on Brunel’s perspective including learning from mature learners, the Lifelong Learning Bursary, new degrees and lastly Karen highlighted some useful recommendations when working with adult learners.
After short break, attendees then went into 2 breakout groups to discuss several questions around Access learners including what works supporting access learners, what will your offer look like in September and what we can do collaboratively.
