IAG Practitioner Group Meeting
The third IAG Practitioner Group Meeting of the Academic Year was held on 27 February and was well attended, with over 30 partner representatives present. After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Deputy Director of Linking London, delegates received an update on the current policy developments from Jochen Pichler, Senior Policy Executive – External Relations, UCAS. Jochen discussed the recent UCAS policy developments and the new widening participation and Progression Pathways resources.
A roundtable partner update followed, where partners discussed and shared IAG related news and examples of good practice. Topics included: UCAS applications, Summer Schools/Experience Days and Higher/Degree Apprenticeships.
After a short break, Deirdre Nugent, Subject Lead Computing & Sport - Higher Education Qualifications at Pearson, presented delegates with the current redevelopment plans for the Higher National qualifications.
This was followed by an update on Higher Education student finance from Ben Rutter, Funding Information Partners Account Manager at Student Loans Company (SLC). Ben announced to the group that finance applications are now live. Deadline for new students is 26 May and for returning students is 23 June. Ben encouraged the group to inform students to apply. Ben talked about some of the recent changes to the student finance website including the new 2017/18 launch pack.
The group then discussed new useful IAG resources for advisers and learners.
Following this, Andrew Jones informed the group about a good CEIAG practice resource being created by Linking London to help partners work collaboratively and innovatively.
The meeting closed with Andrew updating the group on Linking London’s spring and summer IAG offer for partners.
The next meeting will take place on 20 April 2017, 2 – 5pm.
