Access Practitioner Group Meeting

At this meeting Marisa Castellini, Head of Access to HE at OCN London, provided an overview of the current Access to HE Diploma developments. Marisa Castellini and Andrew Jones, Deputy Director of Linking London, then provided an update on Nursing & Midwifery recruitment and admissions tests. This was followed by a presentation from Andrew Jones on unconditional offers and foundation years. The meeting closed with Andrew sharing new Linking London resources, including the latest higher and degree apprenticeship vacancies mapping for London and an adviser’s mental health document.

The second Access Practitioner Group meeting was held on the 26th February and was well attended, with 20 partner representatives present.

After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, delegates heard from Marisa Castellini, Marisa shared with the group the latest statistics and data on Access students, achievement rates and recruitment for this year.

Marisa Castellini and Andrew Jones then updated delegates on the current plans for Nursing & Midwifery numeracy and literacy admissions tests and discussed the UCAS 15th January data for Nursing.

A roundtable partner update followed where partners shared information on entry requirements, outreach offers, and college partners discussed the recruitment of Access learners and HE progression. Topics included: student recruitment and retention, how to support students with mental health issues, statistics about their Access cohorts, and outreach opportunities for Access learners.

After a short networking and refreshment break, Andrew Jones shared with the group data on foundation years and unconditional offers. The group then discussed the impact of foundation years and unconditional offers on the Access qualification.  

Finally, Andrew informed the group about the recent Linking London resource updates, including the latest higher and degree apprenticeship vacancies in London mapping and a mental health resource for advisers – following on from concerns about Access students with mental health issues. The collaborative web resource for the OCN London learner pages created by Andrew and Marisa is live and can be accessed here.

The last Access meeting of this academic year will take place on 8th May 2018, 2 – 5pm at Birkbeck, University of London.
