BTEC Practitioner Group Online Meeting
After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Director at Linking London, delegates heard first from Ali Sheldrick, Access Officer, Student Transition and Success at Birkbeck University of London who presented to the group on an overview of Birkbeck’s On Track programme including its aims, target audience, the workshops that were held and evaluation. Ali also highlighted some of the successes, challenges and future plans of the programme.
A college and university partner update then followed where partners shared information on work with BTEC learners, news updates and developments. Updates included Linking London’s new and updated resources, future projects to support BTEC learners and online events taking place.
After a short break, we then heard from Ria Bhatta, Head of Stakeholder Engagement at Pearson who presented to the group on the latest BTEC news and developments including the DfE response to the L3 consultation and what we know so far, what Pearson is doing, ways institutions can support and lastly BTEC Assessment arrangements for 2022.
Lastly, we heard from Tracy Round-Turner, Assistant Principal at West London’s College who presented on the college’s perspective of the potential impact of removal of funding for the majority of applied general qualifications including what we know about T Levels so far and what the college is doing to prepare. Tracy also highlighted some issues and concerns around T Levels such as the limited student choice and the questions to consider and actions to take. This was then followed by a further discussion with the group around the potential impact of the reform will have on students.
The next BTEC Practitioner Group Meeting will be in the Spring term, time and date to be confirmed.
