NCOP Update

With the start of the new academic year, Linking London’s NCOP has been busy as we kick off our programme of activities.

In Hub 1, our Engagement Officer Michelle Giordmaina is now based 2 days a week at Havering College and 2 days a week at Barking & Dagenham College and this has allowed us to make rapid progress in the timetabling of activities. Sessions have now been delivered to over 30 year 2 ward learners including an introduction to HE pathways and a myth busting session, and a session on student finance and the UCAS application process. These sessions have been very well received by students so far and we look forward to continuing their delivery in the coming weeks with personal statement and application workshops.

In Hub 2, Christopher Carr has joined us as Student Engagement Officer and is now based at LSEC 2.5 days a week and will provide a point of liaison for activities between the college and our university partners. In the Hub 2 meeting on 26th September we reviewed the subject areas of the NCOP learners following the new enrolment data provided by LSEC with our university partners and we look forward to kicking off our Hub 2 projects in the very near future.

We have met with the colleges in Hub 3 and identified some initial activities that would be useful to level 3 learners until December as well as discussing the offer to year 1 learners from January which will include delivery from two of our partner universities, Kingston and Middlesex.

Back in the Linking London office, the team has developed a set of NCOP resources for staff, students and their parents/carers including an Art and Design student guide which provides students with information on the range of HE options available to them as well as addressing topics such as student finance and the new apprenticeship offers.

Bidding closed for the 3rd round of outreach funding on Friday 22nd September and we have received a number of project proposals which were discussed at the Steering Group meeting on Wednesday 27th September. These proposals range from staff posts, to workshops and staff conferences and Helen is now working closely with our university partners to refine these proposals where necessary. We look forward to these projects adding value to our existing offer in our colleges in all three hubs.
