HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting

This meeting featured presentations from Rebecca Mameli, Head of Higher Education Research and Qualifications, Pearson, on the latest updates on BTEC Higher Nationals (HNs) and Marco Macchitella, Deputy Principal, and Dr Ishan Cader, HE Development Coordinator, Morley College London on setting up and developing a HE offer. The group also discussed OfS registration, including Student Protection Plans, and shared their thoughts on the future of College HE.

The first HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting of the academic year chaired by David Hillier, Assistant Principal - HE and Apprenticeships, South Thames Colleges Group, was held on 1 November and was well attended, with 16 partner representatives present.

After a warm welcome from Sue Betts, Executive Director of Linking London, delegates received a presentation from Rebecca Mameli. Rebecca provided an overview of the educational policy landscape and updated the group on the Pearson BTEC HNs. The group then had an opportunity to ask questions and share issues as part of a Q+A session.

A roundtable partner update then followed where partners discussed and shared higher education in further education related news, mergers and HE student recruitment and OfS registration.  

Following a networking break, delegates heard from Marco Macchitella and Ishan Cader, who provided a partner perspective on setting up and developing a HE offer. Marco and Ishan provided an overview of Morley’s HE journey so far, including key statistics about their first HE cohort and lessons learnt.

David Hillier then led an engaging Chatham House Rule discussion on the future of College HE to which partners contributed their ideas and suggestions.

The meeting closed with delegates discussing the relevance of College HE guide for students and sharing their ideas for the key priorities for the academic year in relation to College HE, including the setting up of a HE in FE research group.
