Uni Connect (NCOP) - Linking London Update

In terms of delivery update, through 972 activities, we have worked with 756 students in total since 1 August 2020, of which 414 are from our target Uni Connect wards. The overall proportion of students taking part in Linking London activities who are classified as disadvantaged in at least one indicator is 88%.

After consultation with learners and other stakeholders, plans for an in-person campus visit are being carefully thought-through for June, in collaboration with college staff, Engagement Officers, and colleagues at University of East London, who will be our hosts. We hope that students from Havering Sixth Form, Havering FE College, LSEC, Coulsdon College and Barking and Dagenham College will be able to sign up, but spaces will be limited for this new blended approach Summer School event.

We have now been able to analyse the attendance and feedback for LSEC Transition Week and are pleased to report that across four days, over 500 learners in total attended 11 sessions, with many students attending multiple events. The week comprised a mixture of virtual and college-based workshops, talks and discussion panels.

At Havering Sixth Form College, as well as the usual one to one sessions and signing up new ward learners, students also benefitted greatly from a Careers Options session that was delivered twice to different groups. Learners gave excellent feedback on these, sharing that they opened their eyes to careers, helped them feel more comfortable about their plans, or helped them to start thinking about the future and how to work towards their goals.

At Havering FE College and Barking and Dagenham College the focus continues to be on signing up students and delivering tailored one to one sessions covering a broad range of IAG topics. Our Engagement Officer covering these two colleges is now the fifth member of the team to successfully qualify as a PRINCE2 Practitioner and we look forward to using these project management principles in the upcoming transition year, for which a great deal of strategic planning is currently underway.

Linking London Uni Connect (NCOP) - Outreach Hub Update

We held our webinar for college staff supporting students into nursing, midwifery, and healthcare subjects on May 18th – a summary of top tips from our panellists can be found here, a pull together of relevant resources here and the recording here. Our three guides for learners on a T Level course in DigitalConstruction, or Education and Childcare are now available. Our T Level guides for HE admissions teams are also available for ConstructionEducation and Childcare, and Digital. Our bulletin went out before the bank holiday and you can see it and subscribe here – lots of events and resources in there. We sadly said goodbye to the fantastic Melanie earlier this month as she has moved to pastures new in Bristol – she’s already sorely missed! Any questions about or feedback on our resources, please get in touch with Jess.
