Linking London HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting

The second HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting of the academic year chaired by Andrew Gower, Principal & Chief Executive at Morley College London, was held on the 17th March.

After a warm welcome and opening remarks from Andrew Gower, the meeting began with a presentation from Sue Betts, Executive Director at Linking London on an overview of the new Director of Access and Participation John Blake's recent speech, highlighting the main headlines and consequences for Access and Participation Plans and future direction of travel.  Sue also highlighted the current consultations from the OfS including Regulating Student Outcomes, the Teaching Excellence Framework and Constructing student outcomes and experience indicators for use in OfS regulation. 

Following this we had a presentation from Rebecca Mameli, Head of Higher Education Research and Qualifications and Yasmin Pitter, Deputy Director at Pearson who presented to the group giving an update on Higher Nationals and HTQs including some headlines, key points of the recent consultations, the HTQs approvals process and the HTQ consent grid. 

After a short break, we heard from Gabe Manthorp, Development and Curriculum Manager of HE at Westminster College who spoke to the group on building a HE culture in an FE college including the challenges, opportunities and proposed strategies for the future in developing a HE culture. 

Lastly, the group went into two breakout groups to discuss ‘Raising our profile – how can we work together to raise our profile?’ and ‘Encouraging student progression and participation – how can we further encourage progression to level 4 and beyond?’   

The date of the next HE in FE meeting will be on the 9th June 2022, 2-4pm.
