HE in FE Practitioner Group

This meeting focused on the application to register for the Office for Students (OfS) and featured an interactive presentation and Q&A from Jessica Trahar, Head of Strategic Development, OfS. The group also discussed other OfS requirements, including Student Protection Plans, and the group shared their thoughts on the new Linking London College HE e-prospectus.

The third and last HE in FE Practitioner Group Meeting of the academic year was held on 16 May and was well attended, with 15 partner representatives present.

After a very warm welcome from Sue Betts, Director of Linking London, delegates received a presentation from Jessica Trahar. Jessica provided an overview of the application process and benefits of being on the register. The group discussed aspects of the application, including access and participation plans/statements, student protection plans and governing documents. Jessica reassured the group about the process and informed the group about when they should expect the outcomes.

A roundtable partner update then followed where partners discussed and shared higher education in further education related news, mergers and HE student recruitment/retention.

Sue Betts then led a discussion on student protection plans and consumer law, and shared Eversheds’ presentation on consumer law and student contracts compliance from a HE in FE meeting in 2016, which is still very relevant for today’s HE landscape.

Following this, delegates heard from Andrew Jones, Deputy Director of Linking London, on the latest updates to the Linking London College HE e-prospectus and offered attendees the opportunity to contribute to this new staff guide.

The meeting closed with delegates sharing their ideas for the key priorities for the next academic year in relation to College HE.

The first HE in FE meeting of the next academic year will take place in October/November – date and room TBC.
