T Level Practitioner Group Meeting

On the 14th October, Linking London held the first T Level Practitioner Group which will meet 3 times a year and was well represented with FE and HE partners present.

After a warm welcome from the chair Judith O’Neill, Assistant Principal, HE/IOT, Technical and Vocational at HCUC, delegates heard first from Suzanne Hall, Head of Sector Development: Technical and Professional at Pearson who presented to the group on T Level developments including the DfE timeline for rollout, structure of the qualification, grading and UCAS points and the T Level Transition Programme. Suzanne also highlighted some 2020 cohort reflections and future thoughts for BTECs from Pearson’s viewpoint.

This was followed by a perspective on T Levels from a FE and HE view, which Judith O’Neill gave an update on T Levels at HCUC including the work they are currently doing, what T Levels they are currently delivering and will deliver in the future and recruitment numbers. The University of Greenwich then gave their perspective including what they are doing to spread awareness of T Levels, outreach work with T Level learners and a new pilot on offering T Level placements.

After a short break, a college and university partner update then followed where college partners shared information on delivering and planning to deliver T Levels and universities could share information including admissions arrangements and outreach support.

Lastly, the group discussed priorities for future meetings and gave suggestions for possible speakers such as asking someone from the DfE or AoC to speak about funding and to hear more from universities on their admission policies and how they are showcasing T Levels.

The next T Level Practitioner Group Meeting will be in the Spring term, time and date to be confirmed.
