Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Group Meeting

The first Higher and Degree Apprenticeship Group Meeting of the academic year chaired by Darryll Bravenboer, Director of Apprenticeships and Skills, Middlesex University, was held on 14th November. The meeting featured a presentation from Neeta Barot, Head of Degree Apprenticeship, University of Surrey and David Hillier, Assistant Principal - HE and Business Development, South Thames College Group.

The Higher and Degree Apprenticeship (HADA) meeting of this year was well represented, with both HE and FE partners present.

After a warm welcome from the Chair, Darryll Bravenboer, Middlesex University London, the meeting began with delegates discussing the latest news and policy developments and updates from partners on engagement to date in developing and delivering higher and degree apprenticeships.

Following this, delegates heard from Neeta Barot, University of Surrey. Neeta presented on her perspective on developing the degree apprenticeship offer, her experience of two universities, pros and cons, challenges and also her own personal journey with lessons she learnt.

Following a short break, the group heard from David Hillier, South Thames College Group, who provided an FE perspective on developing higher and degree apprenticeships. David gave a background on South Thames Colleges Group and apprenticeships and also talked about their future apprenticeship focuses, opportunities and challenges for FECs. This was followed by a group discussion on how FE and HE can develop closer working links going forward to further the HADA agenda in London. Some discussion points included looking at other institutions that do a large number of apprenticeships and looking at their strategy and experiences and also finding more opportunities for HE and FE focussed providers to collaborate with.

The next HADA meeting will take place in March, TBC. All future events information can be found here.
