Access Practitioner Group Meeting

The second Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group meeting of the academic year was held on 14th February and was well attended, with 20 partner representatives present.

After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Director of Linking London, delegates heard from Michelle Wood, Access to HE Development Coordinator, OCN London. Michelle updated the group on the latest developments for the Access to HE Diploma, including headline statistics for London and new OCN London Diploma details.

A roundtable partner update followed where partners shared information on entry requirements, outreach offers, and college partners discussed the recruitment of Access learners and HE progression. Discussion included the rise in unconditional offers and the effect this has on Access courses.

After a networking and refreshment break, the group split into groups to discuss College Access recruitment and marketing. The groups focused on where/how do prospective learners find out about Access courses and what are the different ways that colleges can promote their offer, examples of good marketing practice and what prospective students need to know. This was a great opportunity for college and HE staff to work together to identify gaps in Access marketing and share best practice.

Andrew Jones and Emily Harber, Partnership Officer, Linking London then led a session on the latest updates to the Linking London Collaborative Offer pilot for level 2 pre-Access learners.

Finally, the meeting closed with Andrew informing the group about recent Linking London resource updates, including the latest higher and degree apprenticeship vacancies in London mapping and the collaborative web resource for the OCN London learner pages created by Linking London and OCN London which can be accessed here.

The next Access meeting is on 16 May 2019, 2-5pm, Birkbeck, University of London.
