13 June 2019: Postgraduate Study Event

On 13th June, Linking London held its very first Postgraduate Event as a direct response to partners wanting to explore further the area of PG study. This event focused specifically on widening access to postgraduate study.

The event started off with a presentation from Chris Rea and Laura Greaves from Prospects who provided the group with an excellent overview of the current postgraduate landscape including information on the decision making process and what Master graduates do.

Anthony Hudson and Agnieszka Spytkowska from Continuum at the University of East London then spoke about making the case for widening participation at postgraduate level and spoke about UEL’s undergraduate research internship scheme. We heard about how the scheme has increased students skills and also increased their confidence in applying and thinking about Postgraduate study.

Following this Hester Gartrell from Birkbeck, University of London spoke about what is responsible postgraduate widening access and we discussed as a group how we could ensure that we practice Postgraduate Widening Access responsibly.

We also discussed the differences and distinctions in what we would consider as widening access for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Following this in groups we also spoke about how we can be working collaboratively together by sharing best practice and we also discussed how Linking London can support partners going forward.
