Access Practitioner Group Meeting

The first Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group meeting of the academic year was held on 11th October and was well attended, with 20 partner representatives present.

After a warm welcome from Andrew Jones, Director of Linking London, delegates heard from Julie Mizon, Access Manager at QAA. Julie updated the group on the latest developments for the Access to HE Diploma, including headline statistics, challenges for the qualification and what’s next for QAA. This was followed by a Q&A session where practitioners had the opportunity to ask Julie questions related to the qualification.

Following this, Marisa Castellini, Head of Access to HE, OCN London, shared the latest Access updates with the group, including statistics for London, new OCN London Diploma details and details on their new Progression Agreement with Goldsmiths.

Andrew Jones then presented on the key statistics from the latest UCAS data for placed applicants released on 13th September, including the most recent data on clearing.

After a networking and refreshment break, a roundtable partner update followed where partners shared information on entry requirements, outreach offers, and college partners discussed the recruitment of Access learners and HE progression.

Emily Harber, Partnership Officer, Linking London, then presented her summary of findings on HE entry requirements for Access to HE Diploma applications. Linking London produce annual mapping of the entry requirements for a selection of subjects at London HEIs.

Finally, the meeting closed with Andrew informing the group about the recent Linking London resource updates, including the latest higher and degree apprenticeship vacancies in London mapping and the collaborative web resource for the OCN London learner pages created by Andrew and Marisa is live and can be accessed here.

The next Access meeting of the next academic year will take place in early spring – date and room TBC.
