London NCOP-Linking London Update

Despite our college’s Easter holidays, we have still run 36 activities bringing our total amount of activities for this academic year up to 614 with an engagement of 216 ward learners and 560 additional learners.

In Hub 1, our engagement officer Suzanne Humphreys organised an extremely successful Sports Careers day for Havering Sixth Form College students. This was organised in liaison with the college sports teachers in response to ward learner’s requests for further information about their options after college. The feedback comments at the end of the day were very favourable including:

‘Very detailed sessions. It taught me a lot and has got me interested in learning more. It has me planning on a few possible jobs for the future.’

‘It's given me information that's useful and helped me choose an appropriate career path. Very motivational.’

Also in Hub 1, Havering Sixth Form and Havering College of Further Education students had the pleasure of attending a fashion taster day at Ravensbourne University London. This was a true demonstration of innovative and collaborative work as it involved practical and creative workshops with the involvement of 3 separate institutions. Additionally, Barking and Dagenham College students have benefited from a variety of HE and careers IAG sessions from Middlesex University London.

In Hub 2 one to one sessions have continued throughout the month with a focus on UCAS applications, student finance and careers advice.

In terms of planning for Phase 2, on Monday 29th April the panel met to consider the project bids that have been submitted by partner colleges and HEIs to work on Phase 2 starting on 1st August. We are delighted to have received a mixture of bids from colleges and HEI’s, some of whom were involved in Phase 1 and others who will be new to the NCOP. Partners will be notified shortly of outcomes and there will be follow up planning meetings to begin the preparation for Phase 2.

The London NCOP also submitted its Operating Plan together with a Project Plan for Phase 2 to the OfS. This included a Progression Framework for the London NCOP which sets out a clear statement of the specific changes that are expected for an individual learner over time participating in London NCOP targeted outreach work. Following submission of these documents we are expecting to hear from the OfS very shortly with official confirmation of funding for Phase 2.
