Information, Advice and Guidance & Progression
In this work strand, we work to support advisers, admissions staff and vocational applicants to higher education.
Our main foci are:
Provision of an outreach IAG service, on request for partner FECs, to help meet needs, based on the expertise developed within the central team. This service will promote the HE offer of all partners, both FE and HE to students, along with providing generic information and advice on making HE choices and successful applications to HE. These activities will also provide evidence of outreach and collaborative work for partner’s access agreements.
Providing staff expertise to help review and develop effective IAG services for potential HE learners within institutions and within the geographic area.
Staff development support in house to update the knowledge base of staff, including tutors, involved in helping students make effective HE choices and successful transitions.
Running an IAG Practitioner Group, which meets six times a year, to explore issues relating to progression to HE and share good practice in the network
Providing a range of updated IAG resources, both online and printed, aimed at both learners and those involved in supporting learners progress to HE.
Supporting FE to develop effective systems to capture HE progression data.
Support with monitoring IAG and outreach activities to enable HEIs to feed this into their Access Agreements.
Access to staff expertise through our Advice Line on issues relating to HE progression in an increasingly complex and changing sector.
