Linking London Universities and Further Education Colleges’ Summit: Collaboration not Competition

The desire to rebuild our society in a better way and to renew the guiding principles of education for the benefit of all has emerged as a key driver following our experience of Covid-19 and the isolation of our time in lockdown. And with Boris Johnson’s announcement of a lifetime skills guarantee as part of a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, attention is increasingly turning to how we develop a world class higher level technical education offer that both meets the need of the economy and improves social mobility.

Closer collaboration between universities and further education colleges is seen as key to addressing the country's’ skills shortages and improving productivity.  How we ensure true collaboration and remove competition between the two sectors will be vital if these aims are to be achieved. Following a keynote from Yolande Burgess, Strategy Director Young People’s Education & Skills, London Councils, we will explore current good practice in collaboration in London, what are the barriers to address and how we can work collectively to provide a solution for London drawing on the expertise of over 50 Linking London partners.

This summit, bringing together key influencers in both sectors we hope will be the starting point for continued conversations and the identification of opportunities to collaborate, drawing on the experience of Linking London’s work in this area over the past 15 years.
