Linking London will be holding a retention and success event to look at how far we have come over the past couple of years in terms of increasing student retention and success at HE. With the new guidance from the OfS on Access and Participation Plans and the increased emphasis on looking at success and progression this is a timely event where we will discuss the challenges and issues we face going forward to continue to improve outcomes for students.

Professor Liz Thomas, independent researcher and consultant for higher education and Professor of Higher Education at Edge Hill University, will provide us with an overview of the current landscape in terms of improving student retention and success. Drawing on her research she will discuss what we know so far and what we need to do in the future to continue to improve retention and success.

We will be joined by some of our partner institutions who will discuss particular schemes and projects they run and the impact they have had on their own institutional retention and success. Colleagues from Kingston University London will be talking to us about their work around supporting commuter students and then colleagues from UCL will be sharing with us the work they have been doing around their BME Attainment Project. There will be an opportunity for partners to discuss in groups their own schemes that have been successful, look at areas of concern and discuss going forward the ways we can be working collaboratively. There will also be a panel Q+A session which will provide opportunities to discuss how your own institution can continue to address the whole learner journey and increase retention and success.

This meeting is aimed at HE and FE academic and admissions staff, advisers and widening participation staff and those with a responsibility for induction, retention and success. However, anyone with an interest in retention and success is welcome to attend.
